I love columbines (Aquilegia canadensis), a wildflower easily found along road sides and rocky outcroppings, all the way into Canada. Wild columbines typically have red blossoms with characteristic spurs curved back from the petals. Ornamental versions have a much wider variety of colors including white, royal blue and black.
I don’t remember where I came across these pink columbines – I am pretty certain they are wild. I love the dreaminess of the pink color and the out-of-focus flowers in the background.

I hadn’t thought about columbines for a long long time. Now I remember them in our yard when growing up. I believe they were bright orangy/yellowish. I think we pulled off the flower and sucked on the end. 😦

maybe you are thinking about honeysuckle flowers? we used to pull those off and suck the bead of sweet moisture from the end…

but if they really were columbines, I’ll have to taste them, too, next year 🙂

yes, honeysuckle might have been the tasty ones.
I would check the flower books before tasting the others…..I could be wrong.

Beautiful photos….in the UK these are nicknamed Granny’s Bonnets, and the wild ones are deep purple with yellow centres. Just so pretty 🙂

I can see how they got their name! Interesting that they are deep purple in the UK and here they are red to pink…something happens when you cross that big wide ocean 🙂

Indeed, something wonderful happens 🙂
And don’t they look just like old fashioned bonnets?

Oooh, Annette, I love that second out-of-focus shot. Lovely. I like this so much better than my color which is a sort of dull, dark purple. The pink are much prettier.

Beautiful entry – I do love columbines, and I adore the way they will just take over a garden if you let them.
