Dreamy Columbines

I love columbines (Aquilegia canadensis), a wildflower easily found along road sides and rocky outcroppings, all the way into Canada. Wild columbines typically have red blossoms with characteristic spurs curved back from the petals. Ornamental versions have a much wider variety of colors including white, royal blue and black.

I don’t remember where I came across these pink columbines – I am pretty certain they are wild. I love the dreaminess of the pink color and the out-of-focus flowers in the background.

I hadn’t thought about columbines for a long long time. Now I remember them in our yard when growing up. I believe they were bright orangy/yellowish. I think we pulled off the flower and sucked on the end. 😦

  8. Oooh, Annette, I love that second out-of-focus shot. Lovely. I like this so much better than my color which is a sort of dull, dark purple. The pink are much prettier.

Beautiful entry – I do love columbines, and I adore the way they will just take over a garden if you let them.
