Today, I took myself and my camera for a walk to document everything green.
Following torrential spring rains, the river valley is quite wet and covered with fresh spring grass.
Tiny sprouts of herbs, flowers, trees, and mosses are stretching towards the sky everywhere:
I also found this poem from one of my very early blogposts that has not been seen by many people:
Green
Dragonfly iridescence
Subdued, tentative olive
Convincing hunter green
blending into
reliable, pine scented forest green
Succulent emerald of newborn spring grass
Sparkling turquoise ocean waters
Mossy, moist pillows at the foot of spruce
Lime green willows
spraying graceful arcs
Avocado butter rich.
Green is
Mother Nature’s breath,
her flowing hair,
her billowing garments.
Green is her blood,
pulsating and undulating,
nourishing and smothering,
dying and birthing herself
again and again.

Oh my goodness, 5 months without rain. Are you experiencing a real drought or is that the usual dry season?

Sigh. It’s the usual dry season. I’m miserable. Rains start May 15th. I’m hoping for an early rainy season. The lake is so low and hot that it is not refreshing. But, to get some relief from the heat and the dry season, we are building a plunge pool. It is almost ready. I can’t wait to dip in the refreshing cool water. 🙂

Gosh, that moss is just gorgeous! There is a woman in Richmond who has an entirely moss garden. She grew tired of trying to get grass to grow under her tall pines. I haven’t seen the garden yet but have heard raves about from others.

Yes, moss is my favorite, too, especially when it glows in that spring green color. I remember when I was a girl, there was a special part of a spruce or pine forest that had soft pillows of moss as far as you could see. I was in love with that forest and imagined living there and sleeping on the moss. I even imagined running away and building a shelter in that place. 🙂

What is it about forests that awakens that sort of emotion in us. All the old fairy tales that were set in deep forests could have something to do with it, I guess. Magical places.

Oh green!!!! These photos and poem are both wonderful, clearly taken & written by a passionate and careful observer of nature. (We are down to our last patches of snow in the yard and with some sun and spring rain, the lawns should be greening up soon!)
