Weekly Photo Challenge: Layers

I had the privilege of spending this past weekend on Kiawah Island, South Carolina. On the day the full moon rose, we were gifted with muted, layered bands of color on the Eastern horizon:

The soft light of the moon wrapped a pink, blue and grey shawl around the edge of the land.

At the same time, on the Western horizon, the sunset created a multi-layered spectacle of sky colors and water reflections. The blue expanse of the sky could barely contain the orange gold explosion whose feathery outer fingers reached almost all the way over to the quiet Moon territory. The Painter generously sprinkled purple and pink hues across the ocean and the rippled tide which turned the sandy beach into a vast mirror landscape.

These pictures are the visual representation of my prayer of gratitude for being shown so much beauty.

Very beautiful. One is crisp with detailed colors and the other muted and diffuse. What kind of camera do you use? How much do you manipulate your images before and afterwards?

I’m really curious what kind of camera you use Annette. Also, how much did you manipulate your images before and after you took them? They are so different from each other. I like the crispness and depth of view in the vibrant sunset.

    • Hi Kristin – I have a modest Canon Rebel xti and I am hankering for a more modern, more powerful camera. Mine only has 8 megapixels. I “need” macro and telefoto lenses. These particular images needed very little “fixing” because the colors were so intense and the camera captured it well. I played a little with the lighting afterwards, some cropping, and I think that was it. Open to suggestions for a camera “update.” Thanks for stopping by.
