I was mesmerized by the intriguing patterns in this pond created by last season’s dried lotus stalks and their reflections on the water.
Bright spring green was popping up along the pond edges – perhaps cat tails?
I did not even notice this pair of Canada geese until they sounded a loud alarm.
They quickly took to the water and swam to the far end of the pond, away from this suspicious looking human. Distance and expanse of water provided the security they needed. Peace prevailed again.

Love the contrast of the blue water and green leaves. Wonderful shots. Maybe you did scare away those geese…or maybe they were just hungry and went away looking for something to eat 😊

Hi Mabel – yes, it was a gorgeous day and the colors in the water reflected that back. In my experience, Canada geese can be very skittish and don’t want you getting too close (it may be different in an urban park where they are more accustomed to people…)

Beautiful images. There are ponds and sloughs in the wildlife refuge I frequent, and it is wonderful the see the cycles of nature repeating themselves. The geese are special, though. None of those for us, although there are plenty of birds, especially coots and moorhens, hidden away in the growth.

I just watched the movie “Winged Migration” – seeing all those incredible birds (cranes, geese, ducks, etc) travel such distances just to follow their food sources is an amazing experience. You must have quite a few migrating birds twice a year coming through your area?
