Here, in the mountains and high valleys of Virginia, autumn colors have been intensifying over the last few days. Is there anything more spectacular than sunlight warming autumn’s red and golden leaves?
Autumn – thanksgiving for the rich gifts the earth has showered us with.
Fall’s tapestry of earth tones drape the landscape into a final warm embrace before winter knocks at the door.
And just like this leaf is suspended for a few fleeting moments in some dry grasses, the season displays itself in its expansive fullness – for a few deep breaths. Then, the cold winds and laws of change will move us to the next phase. Who’s afraid of change?

I just was in Mena, Eureka Springs, and places in between. I enjoyed it so much, but I was surprised that the color was coming on more slowly than I’d anticipated. Still, you have a beautiful state. I’ll be happy to go back some day.

We are at 2000 feet, Annette, so for the most part, we have to go up in elevation. A few live down next to the river that flows through our property. –Curt

I especially love the red against the golden background. There is a particular type of tree that turns bright red after all the other trees have dropped their leaves already. Then it’s red against the silver grey of the trees that draws the eye. Thanks for your comment, Olga.

I love fall colors in the mountains. I bet it’s gorgeous there now! I haven’t had time to get to the mountains yet, and I’m afraid when I am finally able to get there, it will be too late for the colors. At least I get to enjoy them on your blog! 🙂

I think we just passed the peak yesterday. With rain and colder weather this weekend, it’s downhill from here…But, in the lower elevations, you’ll still be able to enjoy the colors in the next few weeks. Coming your way….:-)

Darn, I wish I had made plans earlier to get to the mountains. As it is we’re going to the mountains in WVA in early November, but it will be too late for the fall colors. Oh well, at least to hike in the cool air will be wonderful. 🙂

You will still see some fall colors in early November, especially in the lower elevations. And if you are lucky, you’ll get Indian Summer as a bonus 🙂

No rich colors for me just now. I’m on the Kansas prairies, and the richly colored grasses are a little slow to appear, too. It’s a more subtle palette, but like you, I’m enjoying the change.

I recently visited the majestic state of Virginia. My brother and sister-in-law are wonderful hosts. They shared many views and seasonal events unique to their state with me. I was so inspired I also snapped a few pictures, and posted on my blog. This was a very memorable vacation because I got to share it with family. We had a dandy time!

Virginia has much to offer including a wide range of scenery and micro climates. The Shenandoah Valley, in particular, has turned into a food artisan mecca including beer breweries, cideries, artisanal cheese and vinegar makers. Glad you got to visit.
