Winter’s End

I am celebrating the last day of February with a little fairytale illustrated with ice photos captured this morning.

As winter dragged on and people and animals had little food left, one brave woman decided to trek to the ice dragon’s cave.  Perhaps he’d be willing to make a deal and release winter, slowly. 

She set out at sunrise, on her ice-covered planet:

Said “hello” and rested a while under her favorite frozen tree who encouraged her to find the Ice Dragon. “But be careful, Ice Dragon doesn’t like humans.”

When she came to this waterfall, she suddenly wondered whether this was a good idea. Her heart was beating fast:

She walked through the frozen falls and found the entrance to the dragon’s winter palace:

Once inside, she saw where the dragon guarded the planet’s warmth:

And then he walked towards her, the Ice Dragon. He did not look happy to be disturbed:

“Mr. Dragon, sorry to disturb you in your winter abode. But I’ve walked a long, long way to….”

“What do you want?” The dragon growled impatiently.

“I was just wondering, all that fire you keep in here….”

“I don’t have all day, what do you want?”

“Well, it’s been an awfully long winter and my people and the animals are really suffering. Would you consider sharing some of your fire with us? We’d really appreciate it.”

“Well, I don’t care that much about your kind. But if you say that the animals are suffering…..well, I’ll see what I can do.” And with that, the Ice Dragon retreated deep into the warm recesses of his cave.

She slowly wandered away from the dragon’s cave and began her long trek home. Her heart was beginning to hope that the Ice Dragon would breathe a bit of fire. Then, spring could begin.
