My favorite winter escape is always to places where it’s warmer. This time it was a short trip to Kiawah Island, just outside of Charleston, South Carolina. The sun smiled on us the entire time, coloring the horizon with pink and purple bands at the beginning of the day and setting ocean and sand ablaze in orange and gold in the evening.
Throughout the day, lights glinted, twinkled, and shimmered on gentle ocean waves
Beads of water glitter on feathers
Sea foam glints on wet sand
A seashell shines softly in the evening light
Reptile skin glints in the sun softening the perception of danger
Children’s hair shines brightly
Spanish Moss, the trees’ wild hair, shimmers the air alive
Even a simple glass of water joins in the twinkling game
Day’s end is saturated in a magical light show:

Also, a great big thank-you to Tina of Travels and Trifles who cheerfully took us to some of her favorite places on Kiawah and introduced us to the alligators.
