A Sunday Drive through Cold Winter Country

The sun was shining all day from a blue sky but barely had the strength to raise the temperature. As the shadows grew longer in the afternoon, we warmed up the car for a short drive, just to escape the indoors for a little while.

This year, I am planning to highlight more of the beauty of the Western mountains of Virginia as well as nearby West Virginia. I am hoping to do a post on the traditional art of maple syrup making which will begin later on this month, depending on the weather.

Very pretty pictures of winter, when nature is taking a long nap and still leaves us plenty to enjoy.

Being an ex-New Englander, I’ll be very interested in the maple sugar story. I really didn’t know they made it that far south.

    Great pictures

    • The cold froze my brain! It was Saturday yesterday and I thought it was Sunday… oh well, blame it on the cold🙂

      • Haha, funny. I’m having a lazy day this Sunday morning. Plan to work on my novel for a couple of hours then go for a walk. Have to brace myself for the cold, although it’s supposed to be in the 40s today where yesterday was below freezing. I have to start applying for jobs tomorrow, but that’s a task I don’t look forward to.

  7. Nature in the winter months has such an abstract beauty, as you’ve showcased here, Annette. Do you process the maple syrup yourself? Look forward to learning about the process!
