A group of horses frolicks in a meadow:
and a small group of pretty white horses grazes on the ridge line of the field:
While I was hoping for the perfect alignment and back lighting to occur as these four wandered and grazed and flipped their tails and manes, another picture began to compose itself: All of a sudden, a few horses move in from the right, then more and more until “my” original group of four is totally absorbed in the herd and they are all galloping in a chorus line to a distant destination at the edge of the field.
While the photographs themselves are not masterpieces by any measure, I love the way the horses, as a group, repeat the ridgeline of the meadow and, higher up, the curvy outline of the hill of trees behind them. The “master piece” for me lies in the accidental coming together of nature’s lines and textures with the natural self-organization of the horses. Beyond that, any horse, any field, any mountain, any blade of grass, any leaf is in itself a “masterpiece” of Gaia’s creation.
I never really got into Greek Mythology, but creation itself is a masterpiece and horses are wonderful creatures. I love the way they came together for you in your masterpiece.

Thank you, Lily. I am not a horse person like some people are, don’t own a horse, don’t ride one (although I have tried and couldn’t sit for a day or two…) but I enjoy watching them. They definitely embody strong personalities and energies….

Stunningly beautiful and I agree totally with your words. The beauty lies not in the perfect composition, but in heart and hoof across the earth. Again I have to say just beautiful π

As we were going into town today there were several vaqueros riding their horses in the ditches along the highway, like something taken out of another time. We came back a few hours later I noticed several horses and some foals in the fields. They are indeed beautiful “masterpieces” of Gaia’s creation and you’ve captured the light and them beautifully. Thank you for sharing. π

Thanks – it was great watching these horses first disband in small groups then coming together again on the horizon as a herd…

Hi there, Annette, I’m sad to say my holiday is over. π¦ I’m back in Virginia now, working hard to get settled in. I still haven’t finished posting about my trip, as I haven’t written anything yet about Portugal. Slowly, slowly, I will get to it, but I have so many practical matters to work out, I don’t have much time. Hopefully I can get back to visiting blogs on a more regular basis. π

Take your time – re-settlement is hard work…. looking forward to being in touch. Is your catbird 1025 yahoo e-mail a good one to write to you?
